| The Saint Laurent Church (Haut-Ittre) |
|
|
A refuge for the population in the event of an invasion during the Middle Ages, this former 12th-century watchtower still gathers the population, but in a more religious context, as it has since been converted into a church.Over the years, this pretty little church in Ittre acquired a central nave and a chancel in Romanesque style, while the side naves were added later. Thus various Romanesque and Gothic styles, illustrating over five centuries of religious architecture, blend together in this building. The church is dedicated to Saint Laurent, whose martyrdom is depicted in an 1850 painting. Guided visits possible for groups by appointment only. Length of the visit: 1/2 hr.
