Born in the guise of the god Momus, driven out of Olympus for his incessant mockery and sarcasm, the Rebecq giant Momus came down to earth… You don’t have to rummage very far in the history of Rebecq to discover that at the end of the 1800s there already existed a carnival organised at the time by "The Rebecq Circle of the Momus". This group, traditionally affiliated with the Spring Carnival Committee, is presently a full-fledged folklore group and is distinguished by its costumes in four colours, red, green, yellow and brown, representing the four villages of the Rebecq area. With this rich past of traditions and legend, Rebecq has for several years had its own giant, baptised Gilbert Momus. Categories: Heritage - Folklore heritage - The Roman Païs and its 'giants' |
