Calling all sailors!
While it is true that lock 5F in Ittre, with the inclined plane of Ronquières and the present Charleroi canal upstream, have allowed passage of 1350-tonne barges since 1968, it is interesting to note that the significant movements of water and the subsequent waves caused by the various locks have been attenuated by development of expansions upstream and downstream of the lock.

A new invitation from the Roman Païs for young and old to share precious moments.
A haven of peace for walkers as well as the fauna and flora growing there in complete tranquillity, this part of the Brussels-Charleroi canal, known as the “dead arm” of the canal, offers an ideal walking destination for the whole family. While the Brussels-Charleroi canal supports its incessant traffic every day of barges that, despite their nonchalant air, are testimony to the sustained economic activity developing there, its “dead arm” is completely calm, and it's well worth allowing yourself to drift along there according to your mood. Family fun!
