fontaine The Saint Renelde Well could be considered, all in all, fairly mundane… if it didn’t contain water reputed to be miraculous.
In the green countryside around Saintes, approximately 800 m from the village church, in the middle of the fields, is the Saint Renelde Fountain or Well, the water from which is reputed to be miraculous in curing diseases of the skin and eyes.

The Gothic border is protected by enclosing walls going back to the 16th century, with a cast iron structure surmounted by a statue of the saint (19th century). Thanks to its therapeutic reputation, this fountain is still a very common centre of pilgrimage.
